A faithful collaborator of Serax, Belgian artist Marie Michielssen presents her very first line of ceramic tableware. This collection named"La Mère"is an ode to the maternal figure and women in general. Marie Michielssen pays tribute to these women who, despite all the social pressure, remain in tune with their hearts and positively use qualities such as empathy, intuition and emotional intelligence, both within their family and beyond. Marie Michielssen:"It's also an ode to my mother and grandmother. They taught me everything. At home, we were always gathered around a nice table. We paid great attention to detail, and the meal itself was an opportunity to enjoy the experience and live in the moment. The table was nicely set and the food was treated with the greatest respect.'' Made up of plates, bowls, dishes and cutlery, this complete table service is designed for all those who have hospitality at heart, whatever the occasion. What could be better than bringing family and friends together around a carefully laid table? The different stoneware pieces with their slightly irregular lines are made by hand. These pieces combine a surge of nostalgia with a contemporary rendering. The use of hand-modelling techniques and a glossy glaze results in an interesting marriage between old and new. The plain glaze, in warm brown or off-white, coordinates wonderfully with the stylised motifs representing female figures. With their foot, some pieces grow taller. Marie Michielssen explains:"These tall shapes raise up the dishes you serve to a literally higher level. Very playful, these pieces can be combined, but you can also use them to add a festive element to your tablescape.'' This set includes 2 La Mère espresso cup saucers (cups sold separately).
