Vitra - Decoration Eames Elephant - Green - Plywood - Designer Charles & Ray Eames; Vitra Decoration Green Wood. Dimensions: 78.5 x 41 cm x H 41.5 cm. Charles&Ray Eames are among the most important design personalities of the 20th century. Their work includes furniture, film, photography and exhibitions. Vitra is the only company authorized to manufacture their products for Europe: if you are in possession of an Eames product made by Vitra, you can be sure that it is an original. In the early 1940s, Charles&Ray Eames spent several years developing a technique for molding plywooden into three-dimensional shapes, creating a series of furniture and sculptures in the process. Among these early models was the Mauve Elephant, created in 1945 and initially designed for children. Composed of two parts, this sculpture proved to be the most technically demanding due to its complex curves, and the object never reached series production. One of the prototypes, given to Charles Eames' 14-year-old daughter Lucia Eames, was loaned to the Museum of Modern Art in New York for an exhibition in 1946. It remains in the possession of the Eames family. After a limited edition in 2007, Vitra has now launched series production of the legendary Eames Elephant in Plywooden for the first time. This decorative sculptural figure featuring a high-quality American Cherrywooden veneer has been available since 2017. In September 2023, the Eames Elephant is available in Dark green Stained plywood: a limited edition hue never seen before.
